Room by Emma Donoghue
A sparsely written book that manages to evoke horror and yet at the same time is a wonderful testimony to the power of love. Jack and Ma live a life very different to the average suburbanite, they have each other and one visitor only. To say much more would spoil it. The author takes you into a world you would never wish to find yourself in with the use of language that almost magnetises you, the more you read the more you want to read. It is not any easy read subject wise, yet it is handled delicately and sensitively. Well worth the effort even if you don't particularly like the subject, the power of the human spirit to triumph over adversity is well exemplified here.
