The Help by Kathryn Stockett

Set in Mississippi in 1962, this is the story of three women: Skeeter, Abilileen and Minny whose lives collide and intersect with unforeseen risks, consequences and life changes. These women's lives are directly caught up with the Civil Rights struggle that engulfs the South and the social conventions that dictate how their lives should be lived. Abilileen, Minny and Skeeter are wise, smart, sassy, and scarred by their experiences. They are also a testimony to the word Bravery.
The story touches you, enlightens you, makes you laugh, makes you shed tears. You come away from reading it with a whole new appreciation of the struggles of others and how darn lucky we are. A wonderful, warm read from a very talented author who doesn't use two words where one will suffice. This book would make a wonderful Christmas present for anyone lucky enough to receive it.
